The north-east’s fastest growing communications technology firm, according to Deloitte, Escape Business Technologies has secured a contract win with data cleansing and enrichment services company OILCATS, in a deal worth £50,000.

OILCATS offer data cleansing and enrichment services for operations maintenance, materials management and supply chains for some of the world’s largest oil and gas companies. Escape has been tasked with introducing Virtualisation to the rapidly growing company, which is vital to the on-going success of the business.

Colin McHardy, OILCATS operations director, said: “With a fast growing business we understood the importance of maintaining the continuity of our services, which called for a review of our technical infrastructure. Equipment space was an issue for us as well as controlling the server environment. We needed a solution that we could implement quickly without adding further demands on services such as power and temperature control.”
The team at Escape developed a solution to meet OILCATS needs, limiting the implementation of new physical servers by utilising VMware virtualization.

Robin Parkinson, Escape director, said: “The benefits of VMware, with relation to the OILCATS project, are the flexibility for future testing, consolidation of existing servers and the ability to improve the disaster recovery process.”

Mr McHardy continued: “We initially had some concerns using VMware, as we do have sizeable databases running data protection routines every half an hour to our backup server.  These issues were addressed by Escape and our concerns were quickly eliminated. The Escape team implemented the new servers over the weekend with negligible downtime and we were fully operational for the start of the new week.”
